Systems, one of the industrial management sector's pioneering system integrators, announced the selection of Unify VISION(R) for developing a custom web-based solution for Baltimore Gas and Electric's Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant The Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant (CCNPP) is a nuclear power plant located on the western shores of the Chesapeake Bay in Lusby, Calvert County, Maryland. The plant has two 2700 megawatt thermal (MWth) Combustion Engineering pressurized water reactors. .

As much as 30% of plant staff time can be consumed in finding information in logbooks, personnel interviews, and analysis of data. TFP Systems' Operational Data Access and Communication (OD-A-C) system, which is based on Unify VISION, will reduce search times in identifying and reporting potential and certain events to critical staff needing to know this information. The outcome is that the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant will be able to increase its productivity and output by producing additional electricity for its customers.

"Wireless mobile units and standard desktops will access our server via a web browser The program that serves as your front end to the Web on the Internet. In order to view a site, you type its address (URL) into the browser's Location field; for example, www.computerlanguage.com, and the home page of that site is downloaded to you. . On a very practical level, this will lessen the need for upgrades to ever more powerful end-user PC's, a spiral we would definitely like to put to an end, or at least draw out," said Rex Kraft, Functional Business Analyst, Information Technology Services Unit for Baltimore Gas and Electric Company. "The ability to react rapidly to user requests for application changes and enhancements equates directly to productivity gains for all parties and puts IT squarely in the business mix where it belongs. The desired result from using the Unify VISION-based application is increased plant availability. Making more electricity, that's what we are about," added Kraft.

OD-A-C is a multi-tiered application that enables Calvert Cliffs Calvert Cliffs may refer to:

operators, engineers, and managers to have real time access to information via desktop and wireless hand-held devices. This solution effectively delivers mission critical data that is automatically customized for each user. OD-A-C provides features such as automatic monitoring of position specific plant events, automatic alerts via pager or on-screen on·screen or on-screen

"The power of this solution is in the functionality that Unify VISION offers. Unify VISION provides scalability, performance, universal client architecture, and high-end Internet functionality that we need to build mission critical applications like OD-A-C," stated Bill Fredricks, Principal Architect at TFP Systems.
