* Texas: A ballot initiative will ask voters if they want to amend the state constitution to say, "Marriage in this state consists only of the union of one man and one woman." The state already has a statute banning recognition of same-sex marriages and civil unions. * Maine: Voters in November will have their third chance to reject a gay rights law passed by the state legislature A state legislature may refer to a legislative branch or body of a political subdivision in a federal system.

The revocation of the law can either be done through an express repeal
 similar laws, but this year polls indicate that residents support the new law by about 60%. Maine could offer gay rights advocates their first statewide win in recent memory. "It's polling very well," HRC's Evans said.
