As Central American countries smooth out the final details of the Central American Free Trade Agreement with the United States, presidential elections in El Salvador and Panama could replace current heads-of-state before negotiations wrap up. In El Salvador, Elias Antonio Saca from the ruling party Arena maintained strong support going into the second round of voting In May. In Panama, President Mireya Moscoso tries to hold on tight for another term as voters also cast ballots this month. Meanwhile, the Dominican Republic, which seeks its own free trade agreement with the United States, also holds presidential elections this month.
