The recent surge of gun violence in schools and offices nationwide has prompted Ballistic Barriers, Inc. to create a portable bullet resistant shield as part of its ballistic defense system.

The shield, or panel, is able to withstand multiple hits from most handguns. It is extremely lightweight and can be conveniently inserted into any briefcase In Windows 95/98, a system folder used for synchronizing files between two computers, typically a desktop and laptop computer. The panel is capable of withstanding most handgun rounds up to and including a 240 grain .44 Magnum. It consists of multiple layers of Kevlar 29, a fabric which is five times stronger than aluminum with a density about half that of fiberglass. Although the panel is rated Threat Level II by the National Institute of Justice, it weighs less than one pound per square foot and is only a quarter of an inch thick. Each panel has undergone a process of pressing and laminating lam·i·nate
