Ballet Long Island.Under the artistic direction of founder Debra Punzi, Balle, Long Island promotes a "classical and contemporary repertoire." Yet the program at the Merce Cunningham Studio (May 16-19, 1996) had little to do with traditional classicism classicism, a term that, when applied generally, means clearness, elegance, symmetry, and repose produced by attention to traditional forms. It is sometimes synonymous with excellence or artistic quality of high distinction. .
