Baker to Provide Construction Management and Inspection Services for David L. Lawrence Convention Center Infrastructure.

Michael Baker Jr., Inc., has been selected for a $2.6 million contract by the Sports & Exhibition Authority of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County to provide construction management and inspection services for infrastructure construction contracts involved with the new David L. Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh. Michael Baker Jr., Inc., is a unit of Michael Baker Corporation (AMEX:BKR).

The contract is a multi-phase agreement consisting of three phases, which started in August 2001 and is expected to be completed in the spring of 2003. The project has an estimated construction value of $22 million, and will involve the reconstruction of the east end of Fort Duquesne Boulevard and portions of the Tenth Street Bypass, Tenth Street, Eleventh Street, Penn Avenue, French Street and Garrison Place. Additionally, the project will involve a depressed pedestrian walkway along existing Tenth Street from French Street to an anticipated riverfront park at the south bank of the Allegheny River. Baker's responsibilities include construction contract administration, quality control inspection, shop drawing review, schedule review/monitoring, budget monitoring, issue resolution, Convention Center building coordination and revisions.
