Baker leads Lane to second.

OREGON CITY - Keith Baker earned two second-place finishes and was named top scorer of the meet, leading the Lane Community College men's track team to a second-place finish at the NWAACC meet on Friday.

The Lane women finished in fifth place with 94 points, led by Megan Confer's second-place finish in the 400 hurdles.

Baker, who will run for the University of Alabama next season, finished second in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.17 seconds and then finished second in the 400 hurdles in 54.66. He was third in the shot put with a toss of 48 feet, 1/2 inch, tying teammate Evan Lybarger.

Baker scored 37 points for the meet, and the Titans finished with 129 1/7 points. Spokane won the meet with 219 1/7 points.

"We are going to miss his contribution," Lane coach Grady O'Connor said of Baker. "He's such a great team guy. This is a great conclusion to his Titan career."

Cody Loy earned Lane's other second-place finish, running 9:53.08 to finish second in the steeplechase. Brian Bartow was third in the javelin with a toss of 203-4, and Michael Klinkebiel finished third in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.25.

Confer, who had finished fifth in the 400 meters earlier in the day, ran 1:04.90 to finish second in the 400 hurdles, and Mackenzie Winkle was third in the triple jump with a mark of 36- 1/4.

Big inning costs Lane

in baseball tourney

PASCO, Wash. - Andy McGowan's bases-clearing double keyed a five-run sixth inning as Edmonds defeated Lane 7-3 in the NWAACC baseball tournament on Friday.

The Titans (31-11) will play Tacoma at 11 a.m. today.

Matt Storren drove in two runs in the inning for the Tritons.

Porter Smith hit a solo home run in the fourth inning for Lane, and Chris Nordness added a two-run shot in the ninth inning. Nordness was 3-for-4 and also tripled for the Titans.

Former Duck Bakke wins NAIA javelin crown

OLATHE, Kan. - Nick Bakke, a junior at Oregon Tech, won the NAIA javelin title with a toss of 209 feet, 4 inches on Thursday.

Bakke, who won the Pac-10 title for Oregon in 2002 before transferring to Oregon Tech to pursue his degree in civil engineering, was the first national titlist for the Owls in 31 years.

LCC's Brautigam joins

Western Oregon team

Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges all-star Dave Brautigam of Lane Community College is one of four additions to the Western Oregon men's basketball program, Wolves coach Tim Hills announced.

Brautigam, who played the 2000-01 and 2001-02 seasons for the Titans, is the program's all-time leading scorer and was a first-team all-NWAACC selection both years.

Jim Boutin, the recently retired coach of the Lane Community College men's basketball team, will give a motivational speech tonight at 6 to the Royal Basketball Academy at Willow Creek Tennis & Sport Center.
