Baker Support Services Wins $90 Million Navy Contract.

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 22, 1999--

Baker Support Services, Inc., (BSSI) has announced that a joint venture company, DG21 LLC, of which it is majority partner, has been awarded a 7.5-year $178 million contract to provide base operations services on the island of Diego Garcia. Baker's share of the contract is expected to be $90 million. BSSI is a subsidiary of Michael Baker Corporation (AMEX:BKR).

Diego Garcia is strategically situated in the British Indian Ocean Territories, and hosts a major U.S. Navy installation. It supports America's interests in the region, with its deep water ports, airfield, material storage, and communications facilities.

The contract calls for Baker to supply engineering, work control, facilities maintenance, construction management, port and harbor operations, airfield operations, telecommunications services, maintenance of war reserve material, transportation and vehicle maintenance services, and personnel support services including food service, medical services, and morale and welfare services.

The limited liability company includes: managing partner Baker Support Services, based in Dallas; Day & Zimmermann, Inc., of Greenville, South Carolina; and WS Atkins Facilities Management Ltd., of Birmingham, England. All of the partners provide engineering, construction, and operations and maintenance services.

Baker, in a joint venture with two other firms, held this contract from 1989-1994.
