The goals of both projects are to accurately map each county's infrastructure to increase emergency dispatch and response efficiency. Using a GIS-based approach, Baker GeoResearch is creating an accurate digital map of each county's roads and structures (residences, businesses, schools and churches) using the GeoLink(R) GPS/GIS Field Mapping System developed by Baker GeoResearch. New addresses will then be assigned to mapped structures based upon systematic, county-wide addressing schemes. The resulting digital maps and address databases will become the "geofile" used in each county's Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. As an integral part of each project, Baker GeoResearch will work closely with the U.S. Postal Service The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) processes and delivers mail to individuals and businesses within the United States. The service seeks to improve its performance through the development of efficient mail-handling systems and operates its own planning and engineering programs. and the local telephone companies to convert and reconcile old address records with the new addresses.
