 Jr., Inc., has been selected for a $12.4 million contract by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) oversees transportation issues in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The administrator of PennDOT is the Pennsylvania Secretary of Transportation, currently Allen D. Biehler, P.E.  (PennDOT) to provide construction management support services support services Psychology Non-health care-related ancillary services–eg, transportation, financial aid, support groups, homemaker services, respite services, and other services  and supplementary construction inspection and documentation services during the $110 to $150 million reconstruction of two major highways and the construction of noise abatement structures in south-central Pennsylvania.

Under this contract, Baker will continue providing construction management support and inspection services to PennDOT in Engineering District 8-0 from its established construction management and design office in Harrisburg. The three projects included in the contract are:
-- Construction of noise abatement walls along a six-mile section of Route 581
in Cumberland County. Construction has already begun and is expected to be
completed in April 2003.

-- Reconstruction of Interstate 81 in Lebanon County, including the
reconstruction of more than 10 miles of interstate highway and improvements to
multiple structures. Work is scheduled to begin in early 2003 and be completed
in 2005.

-- Improvements to Interstate 83 in York County, including improvements to the
existing roadway geometry and pavement reconstruction between Exits 14 and 15
in York, Pa. The work also consists of upgrading a number of structures, and
improvements to the ramps and intersections including a portion of Business
Route 83. The work is scheduled to begin in 2003 and be completed in 2005.


Commenting on the selection, Project Manager John F. Bradshaw, P.E., stated, "Ever since we began providing construction management support in 1992, we have been and continue to be a knowledgeable and dependable extension to the District's Construction Unit in providing excellent management, documentation and engineering services. Being customer focused with a partnering approach has been the Baker Construction Management team's key to success with the District."

To further support its selection of Baker, Engineering District 8-0 reported that Baker's Statement of Interest indicated a superior understanding of the concept, presented an excellent management approach, and displayed a thorough knowledge of the design for each specific project. The District also commented that Baker's two subconsultant firms providing construction inspection services are consistently superior firms who have a proven reputation statewide and with the District.
