Protection in Case of a Disaster

BakBone(TM) Software (OTCBB:BKBOF) (TSX:BKB), a global provider of storage management software, today announced the integration of NetVault with Network Appliance SnapMirror to produce BakBone's newest Application Plugin Module(TM) (APM(TM)) SnapMirror to Tape (SM2T).

NetApp(R) SnapMirror, an industry-leading software for data replication, mirrors mission-critical data from a primary site to a remote, secondary site using standard IP networks. In the event of a site-wide disaster -- such as a flood at a customer's primary data center -- SnapMirror delivers fast access to the most current copy of the data, minimizing business interruption and catastrophic data loss. The new NetVault APM provides additional disaster protection by simplifying and automating the process of copying the mirrored data to tape media for offsite storage.

Today's enterprise customers not only need the most advanced backup protection for their most critical data, they also need to quickly recover their information in case of a disaster. By utilizing SM2T APM, customers create a mirror of a full SnapMirror volume on the NetApp storage system. The target devices are configured in the same easy-to-use yet powerful manner associated with NetVault. Once configured, using the Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP), NetVault asks the NetApp storage device to transfer the mirrored data to a tape drive or tape library. This provides another layer of disaster protection by allowing the data to be stored safely offsite.

"Enterprise customers want an IT environment that will protect their mission-critical data from all types of failures and disasters," said Paul Hansen, senior director of product marketing, Network Appliance. "The combination of NetApp SnapMirror and NetVault APM gives customers the protection and reliability they need plus the added benefit of an easy-to-manage application."

NetVault is built upon an advanced modular architecture that provides IT managers the flexibility required to support continued growth and incorporate new enhancements rapidly as information storage needs expand and change. NetVault is able to operate in multi-vendor networks and supports a broad range of platforms, applications, and high performance tape and networked storage devices.

"We have always worked very closely with Network Appliance to provide our mutual customers with the most advanced backup and recovery solution. With SM2T APM, we now offer one more interoperable backup solution to our Network Appliance enterprise customers," said Peter Eck, vice president of marketing, BakBone. "BakBone has always delivered the most reliable data protection at a lower total cost of ownership, and SM2T APM is no exception."

BakBone's complete line of NetVault APMs ensures continuous data availability by providing fast, online backup and recovery for many business applications such as DB2, Informix, Oracle, Sybase, SQL and SAP. NetVault's modular architecture sets new standards in application backup support with simple point and click installation and seamless integration with application software. Local and remote client software installations and automatic client backup and restores can be easily administered across the network, all from one centralized management console.
