Since then, he has held numerous positions in the paper business and has served on several special assignments, including working on the integration of Willamette Industries. He holds a Ph.D. from the Institute of Paper Chemistry. Carpenter, who holds a master of business administration degree from the University of Washington, has worked for Weyerhaeuser since 1964. During his career, he held various management positions in the pulp and paper business before being named to his current position in 1996. Weyerhaeuser Company, one of the world's largest integrated forest products companies, was incorporated in 1900. In 2002, sales were $18.5 billion.
