Happy July 2nd! think you know all the big dates in American history? Here are 10 that often get overlooked.

It's a badly kept secret among historians that nothing much really happened on July 4, 1776. Mthough this date is emblazoned on the Declaration of Independence, the Colonies actually voted for independence two days earlier, and the document wasn't signed until a month later. When John Adams predicted that the "great anniversary festival" would be celebrated forever, from one end of the country to the other, he was talking about July 2nd.
