Despite eyebrows being raised, Baikie is convinced he's made the right decision to return to the juniors after a spell in senior football.

He said: "My decision to leave East Fife was simply a question of doing the right thing and showing loyalty to chairman Willie Gray who had stepped down.

"After three years at the club I felt it was the right thing to move on and try a new challenge.

Charge

"I knew the Linlithgow job was up for grabs and contact had been made between both parties. It was the perfect opportunity at the perfect time.

"I'm delighted to be asked to take charge of a side which I believe is the biggest in the junior game.

"My initial plan after leaving East Fife was to see out the season by going to the odd game then sitting tight over the summer to see which job opportunities arose.

"Thankfully, this has all fallen into place quickly and I can now start planning for next season. I'm as hungry as ever to achieve things.

"I was at Tayport for a 10 years which included two separate spells and was immensely successful.

"I want to continue that success here and although I've been away from the juniors for a while, I have so many contacts at this level that I've always kept an eye on what's going on What's Going On is a record by American soul singer Marvin Gaye. Released on May 21, 1971 (see 1971 in music), What's Going On reflected the beginning of a new trend in soul music. ."

The Prestonfield Park side are still challenging for the Super League title and Baikie believes the trophy is a serious target with just a couple of games remaining.

He said: "We have two league games to go and my aim is to win both as I believe we still have a chance of winning the title.

"It's up for grabs and all we can do is play our part and see if it's enough.

"Linlithgow has always been an attraction as a managerial position and that appealed to me.

"They have a great tradition and I have plans to make sure they stay at the top of junior football.

"I'm delighted to be back and am looking forward to getting started against Whitburn on Saturday.

"I don't feel as if this move is a step back because I am a part-time manager first and foremost.

"I believe there is a basis of a successful squad already here and if I can add to that we will have a lot to look forward to."
