The number one-ranked Bahrainis will now take on group 'B' runners-up Oman in today's semi-finals. The Omanis eliminated favourites Australia 4-2 yesterday. Group 'A' winners Iran take on the Japanese in the other semi-final match.

Bahrain are coached by Brazilian Gustavo Zloccowick, who led them to the Asian beach soccer title in 2006 and then a surprise quarter-final appearance in the World Cup that same year.

The Bahrainis had earlier beaten their Uzbek counterparts 2-1 on the opening day of the qualifying event, and then played a friendly game against hosts UAE on Sunday, which they lost 1-4.

They now hope to take down Oman to advance to tomorrow's final. Only the two teams who make it through to the championship match will go to the World Cup tournament, which will be held at the same UAE venue starting Monday next week.
