Bagdade reaches junior final.

SALEM - Philip Bagdade of Eugene will meet Andrew Vijarro of Bend today for the junior division title of the 77th State Junior Match Play Championships at Creekside Golf Club.

 Class 6A state champion for Sheldon High this spring, defeated Connor Rumpf of Sherwood 3 and 2 in Thursday's quarterfinals before downing Isaiah Telles of Tualatin 2-up in the afternoon semifinals.

In the girls division (ages 15-17) semifinals, Seshia-Lei Telles of Tualatin defeated Sophie Elstrott of Eugene 6 and 4 and will play Avery Collura of Vancouver, Wash., for the championship.

In the boys division (14-15), Tim Scott of Eugene lost to Thomas Arand of McMinnville 4 and 2 in their semifinal match.

Later in the day, Alverson and Caty Reeves had two hits apiece in the Lightning's 3-1 victory over the Fresno Valley Gold.

 U-21 team heads for national tourney

Oregon United Soccer Academy's U-21 team, which is based in Eugene, won the Region IV U-23 championship in Denver.

The tournament included club teams from Colorado, California, Utah and Oregon.

The victory advanced OUSA to the national championship tournament, scheduled for Aug. 3-5 in Seattle.

Immordino edges Nelson for Oregon Open title

REDMOND - Josh Immordino of Kent, Wash., finished at 12-under 204 to win the Oregon Open Invitational by one stroke over Birk Nelson of Monroe on Thursday at Juniper Golf Club.

Immordino, out of Riverbend Golf Club, and Nelson, out of Diamond Woods Golf Club, each shot 71 on the final round of the 54-hole event. Immordino won $5,000 for his first professional win, and Nelson earned $3,200.

Former Oregon State golfers Alex Williams and Tim Sundseth were fifth (208) and tied for ninth (212), respectively. Todd O'Neal of Emerald Valley Golf Club was tied for 24th (219).
