PARENTS can swap until they drop and beat the credit crunch Credit Crunch

An economic condition whereby investment capital is difficult to obtain. Banks and investors become weary of lending funds to corporations thereby driving up the price of debt products for borrowers.

Mums and dads can exchange their children's toys and clothes at a series of swap shops designed to raise money for the Chronicle's Sunshine Fund.

Families can bring a bag of clothes, toys or books their children no longer use and leave with a bag of items donated by other swappers at the Linskill Centre, in North Shields Coordinates:

North Shields (or locally just Shields) is a town on the north bank of the River Tyne, in the metropolitan borough of North Tyneside, in North East England. It is located eight miles (13 km) east of Newcastle upon Tyne.

Organiser Gill Sadler, a teacher, came up with the idea after Christmas gifts went unused.

The mum-of-one Gill, of Backworth Court, in Backworth, North Tyneside North Tyneside is a metropolitan borough of Tyne and Wear in the North East of England. Its seat is at the Town Hall, Wallsend.

Created in 1974, the borough lies within the historic county boundaries of Northumberland.
, said: "There was a lot of brand new stuff lying around and it wasn't being used. I came up with the idea so that all the items could be put to good use.

"I'm sure lots of families find they have the same problem."

Children will also be able to jump on the bouncy castle and take part in singing sessions during the event, which runs from 10am to 12pm.

Fashion lovers can also beat the recession by swapping their old threads for something different at the Chronicle's Sunshine Clothes Swap.

Everyone attending will need to bring three clean, good quality new or nearly-new clothes or accessories.

In exchange guests will receive tokens allowing them to take three different items home at the end of the night.

Style expert Jenny Bersin will also be offering tips on creating the perfect outfit.

 night out. Hopefully you'll come away with a great bargain without being caught in a sale-style scrum, and everyone will leave with some fantastic style advice." The event takes place at the Marriott Hotel, Gosforth Park, Newcastle, on Thursday, June 11, and will raise money for the Chronicle's Sunshine Fund, providing essential aids and equipment for disabled children across the North East.
