Coventry-based calibration engineer Pittard, flying the flag as England No.2 in the women's singles in Odense, was set to face Indonesia's Maria Kristin Yulianti in the first round today.

Pittard is ranked the world No.47 while Yulianti is at 15.

Nathan Robertson Nathan James Robertson (born May 30 1977, Nottingham) is an English badminton player who has achieved international success in both the men's events and the mixed doubles event.  and new mixed doubles partner Jenny Wallwork tackle their first tournament together.

Lancashire-born Yorkshire player wallwork, aged 21, has stepped up following Gail emms' retirement and if she and Robertson win their opening match today they could face England team-mate Robert Blair and his scottish partner Imogen Bankier in the second round.

Robertson and Wallwork begin against china's Xu chen and Pan Pan while sixth seeds Blair and Bankier meet Germany's Johannes Schoettler and Birgit Overzier in this ninth of 12 events on the 2008 world Badminton Federation super series circuit. in the men's doubles Robertson and Anthony clark are back together again after a four-year gap.

The Nottinghamshire pair face Indonesian top seeds Markis kido and Hendra Setiawan in their first match.

The Denmark Open is followed next week by the French Open in Paris.
