Badminton: British duo lose crown; BADMINTON.


NATHAN ROBERTSON Nathan James Robertson (born May 30 1977, Nottingham) is an English badminton player who has achieved international success in both the men's events and the mixed doubles event.  and Gail Emms Gail Elizabeth Emms (born July 23, 1977 in Hitchin, Hertfordshire) is an English badminton player who has achieved international success in doubles tournaments. Career  wasted five match points against Olympic rivals Zhang Jun and Gao Ling to end their hopes of retaining the Yonex All England mixed-doubles title.

No pair had retained the title since Mike Tred-gett and Nora Perry in 1981, but Robertson and Emms appeared set to win in their final at the National Indoor Arena before their Chinese opponents struck back.

The British pair took the first set of the 98-minute final 15-12 and were on the verge On the Verge (or The Geography of Yearning) is a play written by Eric Overmyer. It makes extensive use of esoteric language and pop culture references from the late nineteenth century to 1955.  of victory with five match points in the second, but the Chinese duo hit back from 14-13 to square the match, then took the decider 15-1.

Robertson said: "We should have won. We played two very good games but if you have five match points you ought to win. We didn't take our chances and it's hugely disappointing."
