Badger's sales increased in the first quarter reflecting higher paper sales volumes and continued record sales in its flexible packaging operations. Gross margins in paper product lines were lower due to rapidly escalating pulp prices and continued competitive pressure on selling prices. At the same time, flexible packaging margins remain strong.

Late in the first quarter, Badger completed installation of a new web inspection system on its Fourdrinier paper machine. This should enhance the company's ability to produce more sophisticated specialty products on this machine.
