) reported sales and earnings for the third quarter and the first nine months of 1998. Sales for the third quarter ending September September: see month.  30, 1998 were $16,121,000 compared to $19,002,000 in the third quarter of 1997. The Company reported net income of $408,000, or $0.21 per share for the period, compared to $173,000 or $0.09 per share for 1997. For the first nine months of 1998 sales were $51,844,000 with net income of $1,337,232, or $0.68 per share. This compares with sales in the first nine months of 1997 of $53,034,000 and a net loss of $(608,000) or $(0.31) per share.

Tom Kuber, Chairman, stated the third quarter earnings reflect the results of the continuing cost improvements and shifting product mix to higher margin specialty products. Paper markets nationwide generally continued to deteriorate de·te·ri·o·rate
