) and American Meter Company today announced the signing of a comprehensive business agreement assigning Badger Meter worldwide distribution rights for the TRACE(R) radio frequency automatic meter reading Automatic meter reading, or AMR, is the technology of automatically collecting data from water meter or energy metering devices (water, gas, electric) and transferring that data to a central database for billing and/or analyzing.  (AMR (1) (Adaptive Multi-Rate) A variable rate speech codec selected by the 3GPP for the 3G evolution of the GSM cellphone system (WCDMA). Using the Algebraic CELP (ACELP) compression technology, AMR provides toll quality sound at transmission rates from 4.75 to 12. ) technology. The scope of the agreement includes areas of exclusivity as well as areas of non-exclusivity on a worldwide basis in the water utility industry. TRACE is the most widely used RF meter reading system in the water utility industry.

"In the last three years, more than a half million TRACE radio frequency meter reading modules have been installed at over 150 water utilities in North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. ," said Daniel D. Zandron, Badger Meter vice president of marketing for utility products. "TRACE has proven to be a cost-effective and reliable AMR solution to water utilities. We are delighted that we will now have the opportunity to market the TRACE product internationally," said Zandron.

"American Meter continues its strong financial and technical support of the TRACE radio frequency product line," said Brad Brooks, vice president and general manager of American Meter's Automated Systems Division. "Badger Meter has aggressively marketed the TRACE technology in North America and we are confident that they will continue this marketing effort internationally."

"While Badger Meter offers digital connectivity to more automatic meter reading technologies than any water meter manufacturer in the world, TRACE is our flagship product A primary product of a company, which is typically why the company was founded and/or what made it well known. For example, MS-DOS, Windows and the Microsoft Office suite have been flagship products of Microsoft. CorelDRAW is a flagship product of Corel Corporation. ," said Zandron. "The TRACE technology is ideally suited to the water utility industry where a simple radio frequency equipped handheld data collector or mobile data collector can provide a comprehensive solution to meter reading requirements." American Meter Company and Badger Meter, Inc. are jointly investing in the continued advancement of the TRACE technology to ensure that it will continue to provide an excellent solution to meter reading requirements of water utilities worldwide.

Badger Meter, Inc., founded in 1905, is a leading marketer and manufacturer of flow measurement and control technologies. Badger Meter serves utility and industrial markets worldwide. Badger markets and manufactures a full range of water meters including positive displacement A positive displacement meter is a type of flow meter that requires the fluid being measured to mechanically displace components in the meter in order for any fluid flow to occur.

meters, turbo meters and compound meters along with instrumentation and remote and automatic meter reading systems. For the industrial market, Badger Meter produces a line of precision valves, lubrication lubrication, introduction of a substance between the contact surfaces of moving parts to reduce friction and to dissipate heat. A lubricant may be oil, grease, graphite, or any substance—gas, liquid, semisolid, or solid—that permits free action of  meters, ultrasonic meters, natural gas instrumentation and a variety of flow measurement devices for manufacturing processes.

American Meter is the oldest manufacturer of measurement and control equipment in North America. The Company's history dates to 1836 when Samuel Down manufactured the first gas meters produced in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. . In 1863, Down merged with two other meter manufacturers and the resulting entity was incorporated as American Meter.

For over 150 years, American Meter has pioneered many of the major developments in gas measurement: iron-case meters for the higher pressures of natural gas; coin-operated prepayment meters that helped increase gas usage; the first practical orifice orifice /or·i·fice/ (or´i-fis)
