Bad news.
Schools in France have begun expelling Muslim girls who continue to wear headscarves despite a law forbidding conspicuous religious symbols at public schools. The expulsions, which began in mid-October, were kept low-key for fear of endangering two French hostages in Iraq, reports the Associated Press. "They have just destroyed my life," one 12-year-old said after being expelled from her middle school in Mulhouse Mulhouse (mül z`), Ger. Mülhausen, city (1990 pop. 109,905), Haut-Rhin dept., E France, in Alsace, on the Ill River and the Rhône-Rhine canal.. "What they want is to see us in tight pants like all the girls." As many as 72 students, including three Sikh boys barred from their Paris-area school since September 2 for wearing turbans, face expulsion.
