Schools in France have begun expelling Muslim girls who continue to wear headscarves despite a law forbidding conspicuous religious symbols at public schools. The expulsions, which began in mid-October, were kept low-key for fear of endangering two French hostages in Iraq, reports the Associated Press. "They have just destroyed my life," one 12-year-old said after being expelled from her middle school in Mulhouse. "What they want is to see us in tight pants like all the girls." As many as 72 students, including three Sikh boys barred from their Paris-area school since September 2 for wearing turbans, face expulsion.
