Bad news.


Burglars broke into St. Lawrence Catholic Mission in Middlebourne, West Virginia Middlebourne is a town in Tyler County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 870 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Tyler CountyGR6. The town was established by an enactment of the Virginia General Assembly in 1813.  and stole the tabernacle Tabernacle (tăb`ərnăk'əl), in the Bible, the portable holy place of the Hebrews during their desert wanderings. It was a tent, like the portable tent-shrines used by ancient Semites, set up in each camp; eventually it housed the Ark  sometime in early June.

"This is an extreme violation of the basis of our entire Catholic faith," parish council chairman Larry Prunty told the Intelligencer in·tel·li·genc·er

In addition to the gold-plated tabernacle, the burglars took every picture of Jesus in the church, several replicas of the Last Supper, candles, and two floral arrangements that had been dedicated in memory of deceased church members. The value of the stolen items is more than $4,000.
