Bad environment for social justice.I read with interest the April interview with Kristin Shrader-Frechette ("The sky is falling. No, really."). I believe most of us are guilty to some extent of ignoring Catholic social teaching in our everyday lives. Catholic colleges and universities have been bringing these teachings to students for years but it does not appear that we carry the message into our adult lives. I can't remember the last time I heard a homily homily (hŏm`əlē), type of oral religious instruction delivered to a church congregation. In the patristic period through the Middle Ages the focus of the homily was on the explanation and application of texts read or sung during the that dealt with how U.S. policy affects the poor abroad. Nor can I recall hearing anything about the impact of Wal-Mart on domestic social programs. Maybe Catholic universities can show more leadership in this area. Shrader-Frechette mentions that General Electric owns a TV network and thus is given a pass on some environmental issues. Maybe Notre Dame Notre Dame IPA: [nɔtʁ dam] is French for Our Lady, referring to the Virgin Mary. In the United States of America, Notre Dame should stand up and refuse to accept the millions of dollars they accept from G.E.?
