Severn Trent is a group of companies employing more than 15,000 people across the UK, US and mainland Europe. made almost pounds 168million in the last year after a 5% jump in bills. That bumper sum came a day after United Utilities announced an 11% rise in profits. But Severn Trent's profits were actually down 13% in the year to the end of March because of bad debts and recession-hit firms using less water.
