Bad debt hits Severn profits; yourmoney: : UTILITIES.

WATER supplier Severn Trent Severn Trent plc (LSE: SVT) is a British utility. It is traded on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index.

Severn Trent is a group of companies employing more than 15,000 people across the UK, US and mainland Europe.
 made almost pounds 168million in the last year after a 5% jump in bills.

That bumper sum came a day after United Utilities announced an 11% rise in profits.

But Severn Trent's profits were actually down 13% in the year to the end of March because of bad debts and recession-hit firms using less water.

The firm kissed goodbye to pounds 34m of money owed by customers - up 24% on the previous year.
