Only around 130 Hoops fans made the lengthy trip to Russia for Wednesday night's third qualifying round second leg.

The dedicated fans had to fork out a small fortune for the marathon 3200-mile round trip.

As well as splashing out on flights and accommodation, supporters had to purchase a pounds 115 travel visa just to gain entry to the country.

It was worth the expense as Celtic overturned a home-leg defeat in a European tie for the first time in the club's history, thanks to a Scott McDonald Scott Douglas McDonald (born 21 August 1983, Melbourne, Australia) is a professional football (soccer) player who currently plays in Scotland for Celtic as a striker. And Hoops chief Lawwell was full of praise for the dedication of the travelling support.

He said: "Our supporters have gained a fantastic reputation over the years and this was another example of the great lengths they will go to support the team.

"It wouldn't have been easy for those supporters to travel toMoscow but, once again, their backing of the team was immense. They were a credit to Celtic Football Club.

"Tony Mowbray and the players were all overwhelmed by the encouragement coming from the Celtic supporters and Tony was delighted the fans were able to witness such a fantastic result.

"Our thanks go to every supporter who made the trip."
