Back up to go. (B.E. Reviews). These days, it seems there are more data backup options than ever before, from disk to tape, to CDs and DVDs, and more. Iomega has introduced the HDD 20GB USB 2.0 portable hard drive Portable Hard Disk Plugging into a USB 2.0 or FireWire port, Iomega's HDD Portable Hard Drive provides 30GB of external backup or secondary storage. (Image courtesy of Iomega Corporation.) PC Card Drive The hard disk is entirely contained in this PC Card from Toshiba. PC Card drives are the simplest addition to a laptop computer, because they all have PCMCIA slots. that's compatible with PCs and Macs. A FireWire version of the Iomega Portable comes in a 30GB capacity. The drive also comes with an interface module that lets you swap between connection types. The drive is attractive, light, and thin, which is the general trend for products these days. And that's usually a good thing. But the device feels a bit flimsy, particularly the snap-on module, which rocks back and forth rather than snap in place. Additionally, at a time when new PCs arrive with a minimum of 30GB and other drives run faster than 4200 rpms, the Iomega drives might be a tad inadequate for your backup needs.
