Back to school.
School reopened here on Aug. 21. More than 2.4 million students are
registered at 11,890 state schools and 1,927 private schools, reports
DR1 Daily News (Aug. 14, 2007). The Ministry of Education said there are
63,000 state schoolteachers, and they would distribute 300,000 backpacks
with school supplies, and 200,000 uniforms and shoes for children in
impoverished areas. The Ministry also planned to distribute 14 million
books to state school students.
