It was a joint effort between active and reserve component transporters m February to complete the homecoming of the 3rd Infantry Division from Iraq.

 Red Cloud at the Port of Savannah The Port of Savannah is a major United States of America seaport, located in Savannah, Georgia, just up the Savannah River from the Atlantic Ocean and is operated by the Georgia Ports Authority.  under the supervision of Charleston's 841st Transportation Battalion.

Approximately 1,500 vehicles, helicopters and cargo containers were taken off the ship during the three-day process. Once the off-load was completed, wheeled vehicles were convoyed to Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield Hunter Army Airfield (IATA: SVN, ICAO: KSVN), along with Fort Stewart, is a military complex located near Savannah, Georgia, United States. It is the home of the 3rd Infantry Division of the United States Army. , Ga.

All of the division's aircraft returned on the Red Cloud--more than 60 Chinook, Apache and Blackhawk helicopters. Once the rotor blades were reassembled the aircraft was flown back to Hunter Army Airfield, said Chief Warrant Officer Mike Fry, 3rd ID's aviation brigade maintenance officer.
