He wrote to her and on his release in January began to contact her but she rejected his advances.

Prosecuting Barrister Tony Trigg said: 'She (Ms Owen) made it clear that she didn't want to have anything to do with him.

'It provoked bitterness and he sent various messages and tried to contact her in the public house.'

Mr Trigg said Ms Owen contacted the police after she received messages saying: 'Slapper, I will get some revenge on you.'

Another one sent by Titley contained foul language and said that he wanted to kill her.

On his arrest Titley told police he couldn't remember sending them as he had been drinking.

Titley, 30, of Tresillian Terrace, Butetown, Cardiff, pleaded guilty to causing harassment under section 4 of the 1997 dangerous offences act.

In sentencing Titley to 15 months in prison, minus 149 days he has already spent in custody, Recorder Anthony Seys-Llewllyn said he had to step up sentencing after hearing of the history of harassment to members of the public and the police.

Out of Titley's 29 previous convictions, seven convictions were for harassment one of which was for harassing the father of one of his cell mates in prison.
