Baby P: 'Make sure it can't happen here'.

SOCIAL services chiefs in Northumberland are being urged to re-examine their child protection procedures following the appalling case of Baby P in Haringey.

Blyth Valley MP Ronnie Campbell says he wants to make sure that there is no chance of such a tragedy occurring in Northumberland.

He says he is confident the county council has systems in place to ensure the horrifying events in Haringey could not happen here, but wants to make certain.

"I don't think for a minute that this kind of tragedy can happen in Northumberland. However, I think at this time it is vital that every council looks closely at its own systems and procedures to make sure that children are properly protected.

"I have sat and watched with horror at the case unfolding and my heart goes out to the family who will be left to pick up the pieces of what I think is the most appalling and disgusting abuse case I have ever seen or heard of." He said he will write to the county council's children's services team, and speak to ministers to see what proposals they are going to put in place.
