Babson Establishes Institute for Family Enterprising; Founding Director Timothy Habbershon Joins Faculty from UPenn's Wharton Biz School.

WELLESLEY, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 22, 2003

Babson College expands its entrepreneurial activity in the field of family business with the establishment of the Institute for Family Enterprising within the Arthur M. Blank Center for Entrepreneurship.

Founding Director Timothy Habbershon comes to Babson from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was Founder/Director of the Wharton Enterprising Families Initiative. He will hold the President's Term Chair in Family Enterprising and serve as an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship.

While at Wharton, Habbershon developed the conceptual framework for family enterprising that creates a nexus between entrepreneurship and family-based business. He has applied this entrepreneurial framework to shaping education, research and practice programs on transgenerational social and economic wealth creation.

This academic year, in addition to directing the global networking and educational efforts of the Institute for Family Enterprising, Habbershon will be developing an integrated mentoring curriculum for Babson students and leading edge "powerful practices" research and executive education programs.

Habbershon holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Grove City College, a Masters of Divinity in theology and counseling from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and an MBA and a Doctorate in Adult Education from the University of South Dakota.

Habbershon's framework and research on family enterprising has appeared in numerous articles in academic journals including Family Business Review and Journal of Business Venturing, and he has presented his work at research conferences worldwide.

Habbershon works with large family business groups world wide, delivering executive education and personal consultations on such subjects as strategic thinking long-run wealth creation, organizational restructuring, consensus building and family relationships, and multigenerational leadership empowerment.

Habbershon comes with extensive experience as an institutional entrepreneur, having established numerous higher education programs and centers. He is a Founder and Principal in The TELOS Group, a consulting group that specializes in transition and strategy consultations to enterprising families. He also founded the South Dakota Family Business Initiative at the University of South Dakota, and has been the founder and minister for two churches.
