BYE WEEK WAS A BONUS FOR COC.

Byline: Scott Magoloff Staff Writer

There couldn't have been a more perfectly placed bye week than the one the Canyons football team had last week.

After racking up 1,059 yards and 109 points in its last two games (a 52-50 loss to Allan Hancock and 59-20 win over Pierce Pierce may refer to: Places

), the Cougars were afforded the opportunity to gain some much-needed rest. Coach Chuck Lyon gave his team three days off.

The rest helped injuries heal for some players, while most of the other players worked on fundamentals, such as making basic reads and working on blocking schemes during practice.

``When we have a bye week we go back and start over fundamentally,'' Lyon said. ``We reflect on what we need to work on and also try to get a little rested to make the final push.''

Canyons (3-2, 1-2) begins the second half of its season with an inter-division game at West L.A. at 1 p.m. today.
