Competing against a number of major European companies, BW Technologies won the contract to design and manufacture the unique diesel engine pollution monitoring system to specifications required by Eurotunnel. Every three minutes, while the diesel engines are running, BW's equipment monitors toxic gases as they are expelled from the diesel engine to enter the exhaust cleaning "scrubbers" and monitors the parts per million parts per million mg/kg or ml/l; see ppm. concentrations of gases after they have been cleaned. Temperature and pressure are also monitored in the exhaust gas catalyst to ensure that the scrubbing system on the trains is operating properly, providing a safe working environment for personnel in the Eurotunnel.
