In Creswell, the second Coast Fork Cowboy Festival, which starts today, could be as enlightening a cultural experience for a city slicker as the String Cheese show would be for a cowboy.

Stereotypes aside, there's some overlap between the two spectacles: bluegrass bluegrass, any species of the large and widely distributed genus Poa, chiefly range and pasture grasses of economic importance in temperate and cool regions. In general, bluegrasses are perennial with fine-leaved foliage that is bluish green in some species. . The cowboy fest will feature old-fashioned acoustic country and bluegrass along with Western poetry and art.

 Festival in Springfield and the Scandinavian Festival in Junction City start this week, although the JC event is mainly next weekend, with opening events Thursday.

There also are festivals in cities in every direction, but don't forget about the offerings here in Eugene.

The Oregon Festival of American Music Oregon Festival of American Music is an eclectic, thematically-based two-week summer music festival that has been held annually in Eugene, Oregon since 1992. Produced by The John G.  continues through Aug. 12. An edited-for-modern-sensibilities version of "Annie Get Your Gun" starts its five-show run Saturday. The festival celebrates Irving Berlin's America with nine concerts at the Hult Center and the Shedd, plus free films and lectures.
