DISCOURSE: "They want you to take off your clothes all the time (for roles) when you're younger," actress Jessica Alba Jessica Marie Alba (born April 28, 1981) is an American actress. She is known for her roles in Honey, Dark Angel, Sin City, Fantastic Four, Into the Blue and Idle Hands.  told women trying to break into film and television on Tuesday. "I won't do that."

Alba ("Into the Blue") was the lone actress on a panel of women from various sectors of the entertainment business who took part in an informal question-and-answer session about the industry at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel. The seven panelists discussed topics ranging from the advantages of film school, to balancing filmmaking and single motherhood, to their own early role models.

Alba said her immediate goals involved segueing into producing and headlining a film without a male co-star.

Penelope Spheeris, one of only two women to direct a movie that grossed more than $100 million, said she earned the "Wayne's World" gig because she was one of the few directors in Hollywood who knew anything about heavy-metal music.

Spheeris counseled younger aspiring filmmakers to join the Directors Guild and to become established before making waves.

"Before you rock the boat, make sure they can't get rid of you," Spheeris said.

Since collecting a best picture Oscar earlier this month for producing the film "Crash," Cathy Shulman said she has spent considerable time rejecting scripts that she feels are inferior to the caliber of entertainment she has come to expect.

"I hope this stands as an inspiration to you to tell your own stories," Shulman told the audience.
