A WOMAN was arrested after allegedly trying to sell her son for pounds 6 in petrol money.

Marcy Pappalardo, 37, is accused of pulling up alongside a tow truck at traffic lights and asking for the money in exchange for her six-year-old child, who was in the back seat.

The disgusted driver told police he immediately refused and then followed the car, which also carried a third person, as he called the emergency services.

He kept up with the Pappalardo's car until police pulled the vehicle over a short time later.

Pappalardo's son sat on the trunk of the car and cried as his mother was led away.

Neglect But Mallory Acker, who was in the car with Pappalardo, told police that the tow truck driver had actually requested sex with the mother in exchange for petrol money.

Acker added: "When she refused, he made up this story for police."

But the driver said he had nothing to gain from this and ended up losing time at work.

He told a Florida newspaper: "I have kids of my own. I have no means to make something like this up."

Pappalardo faces charges of child neglect as well retail theft and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription following the mid-afternoon incident in Melbourne, Florida, on Friday.
