Rental & pounds 19.99) **** In a remake of the 1977 original which did great things for its stars George Seagal and Jane Fonda, this time around we have Jim Carrey and Tea Leoni starring as Dick and Jane, a happy couple who live a nice life with their son Billy. Jane is an under-appreciated travel agent and Dick works for Globodyne, a conglomerate run by cutthroat CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. Jack McCallister (Alec Baldwin). When Dick gets a promotion to Vice President, he is overjoyed and Jane immediately gives up her job so she can spend more time with their son. But McCallister has set Dick up as a scapegoat and no sooner is he VP than he is asked to appear on national television defending Globodyne, which is fast going under, taking the workers' jobs and pensions with it. The next day, Dick himself is out of a job and they soon fall on hard times as he finds it impossible to get a job anywhere as near as high-powered as his old one. They also take the opportunity to get even with McCallister. Funny, frivolous and full of energy, this film surprised me a lot. I often found myself laughing out loud and really took to this crackpot crack·pot n. An eccentric person, especially one with bizarre ideas. adj. Foolish; harebrained: a crackpot notion. couple. Carrey and Leoni have a good rhythm and obviously had a whale of a time making this, while eight-year-old Aaron Michael Drozin, who plays Billy, is a little gem.
