BUTLER RETURNS IN GOOD SPIRITS.

Byline: GIDEON RUBIN Special to the Daily News

LAKE ELSINORE -- JetHawks manager Brett Butler Brett Butler can refer to different people:

  • Brett Butler (voice actor), the voice of "Dr. Quinn" on Sealab 2021.
returned to the team last week in good health and good spirits after a frightening ordeal that landed him at a local hospital for four days.

Butler, who has a history of health problems, was initially feared to have suffered a heart attack. He was treated for an infection he said doctors were unable to pinpoint.

He complained of indigestion indigestion or dyspepsia, discomfort during or after eating caused by some interference with the normal digestive process. Symptoms include nausea, heartburn, abdominal pain, gas distress, and a feeling of abdominal distention.  before an April 24 game at High Desert and feared the worst about 30-40 minutes into the bus ride home when his symptoms worsened.

,'' Butler said. ``I thought something was up.''

He was released April 27 and rejoined the team May 1.

He said it was difficult being away from the team despite daily contact with hitting coach Damon Mashore, who served as interim manager, and A.J. Hinch, the Arizona Diamondbacks' farm director, who came to Lancaster the day after Butler was hospitalized and spent most of the week in the Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. ``I talk to them before the games and after the games, so it was hard being away,'' Butler said.

Butler said several players visited him while he was hospitalized. JetHawks reliever Dan Pohlman provided a light moment during a visit when, alluding to the team's early-season woes, he told Butler: ``Skip, I think you just had an allergic reaction allergic reaction

 to bad baseball.''

Said Butler: ``There was a lot of caring and a lot of prayers and I felt it.''

Improvement: Butler said the inexperienced but prospect-rich JetHawks have shown signs of improvement in their play. Lancaster (10-21) won three of four games to start the month but remains in the California League's Southern Division cellar after being swept in a three-game weekend series at Lake Elsinore.

``We're struggling, and we've still got the worst record in the (California) League, but the guys are coming around,'' Butler said.

Chico honored: JetHawks staff ace Matt Chico Matthew Bryan "Matt" Chico (born June 10, 1983 in Fullerton, California) is a left-handed starting pitcher for the Washington Nationals of Major League Baseball. A graduate of Fallbrook Union High School, Chico attended Palomar College and was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks  was the Diamondbacks' minor-league organizational Pitcher of the Month The Pitcher of the Month award is a Major League Baseball award named by each league for each month of the regular season. The left-handed Chico has struggled in May, going 1-1 with an 11.25 ERA.

He lasted just three innings in his worst outing, Sunday's 13-5 loss to Lake Elsinore, when he allowed five runs on seven hits.

Hot hitter: JetHawks outfielder Chris Rahl is the league's hottest hitter. He is batting .441 in his past 13 games, boostinh his average from .303 to a league-leading .368.
