BUTANE LEAK CLOSES FREEWAY TRUCK LANES.

Liquid butane butane (by`tān), C4H10, gaseous alkane, a hydrocarbon that is obtained from natural gas or by refining petroleum.  leaked from a double-tanker big rig Big Rig was a punk band from the San Francisco Bay Area fronted by singer/songwriter Jesse Michaels. Michaels performed with the group after the break up of his previous project, Operation Ivy, and before forming the band Common Rider.  Wednesday night, forcing the closure of truck lanes at the junction of the Golden State and San Diego freeways.

The truck driver was hauling the load from Bakersfield when he pulled onto the freeway shoulder about 8:30 p.m. to check his brakes and noticed the leak, said Los Angeles Fire Department The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), also known as the Los Angeles City Fire Department to distinguish it from the Los Angeles County Fire Department. It is the agency that provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the city of Los Angeles.  spokesman Brian Humphrey.

Five to 10 gallons of butane per minute were spilling through an access portal or hatch on the tanker, Humphrey said.

There was no pollution hazard from the leak, although firefighters were trucking water to the remote site late Wednesday night in case the butane were to ignite.
