BUSINESSES PRESS FOR HIGHWAY LINK.Byline: Sherry Joe Crosby Daily News Staff Writer Seeking to hasten construction of an east-west road, business leaders are inundating City Hall with letters endorsing a six-lane highway that would link Newhall Ranch Road and Golden Valley Road. The city has received about 80 letters from representatives of the Valencia Industrial Association, Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. ``We need a route desperately,'' chamber President Marc Aronson said. ``We need one that's going to work and that's going to upset the fewest number of people and that moves people east and west. With all the planned development in our valley we're going to be in big trouble.'' In 1992, the City Council rejected a proposal for an eight-lane extension of Highway 126 after residents opposed plans to raze raze also rase tr.v. razed also rased, raz·ing also ras·ing, raz·es also ras·es 1. Building another east-west road will help alleviate those problems, he said. ``It's incumbent upon us to get this road built,'' Kellar said. Without a new road, ``we're going to experience increased frustration due to travel problems. It will be a reduction in the quality of life out here. We need that road. We've needed that road for quite some time.'' City officials said they welcome the business community's suggestions but won't be ready to adopt a new road design until a year from now when a series of public meetings on the alternatives have passed. They encouraged the business leaders to participate in the meetings, which start in December. ``We can't choose specific alternatives because of letters,'' city traffic engineer Bahman Janka said. ``We encourage letter-writers to get involved in public participation. There's going to be several workshops with the community. It would be helpful for everyone to get involved and find a solution that will work for all of us.'' The businesses started the letter-writing campaign in October to encourage the city to apply for federal transportation funds that could be used to finance an east-west road, estimated to cost about $100 million.
