BUSINESSES CAN GET HALF-PRICE SETUP IN FEBRUARY OF SOUTHWESTERN BELL
 TELEPHONE'S 'WATS-LIKE' MAXIMIZER 800 SERVICE
ST. LOUIS, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- What's better than getting a good deal? Getting it at half price.
Businesses this month in Arkansas, Missouri and Texas can do just that, said Southwestern Bell Telephone. They'll pay just under half price to set up a telecommunications service which, on their existing line, provides the convenience of letting their customers call them toll-free and all the benefits of an economical 800 number.
The service is MaxiMizer 800(SM). As a low cost, flexible, in-bound service, MaxiMizer 800 service is especially suited to small businesses. One of the key benefits of the new service: businesses pay only for service in the area of the state where they are located (and where their customers live).
"It lets businesses match a calling area to their business needs," explains Kirby Collins, Southwestern Bell's product manager for MaxiMizer 800 service. "MaxiMizer 800 service is an extremely cost- effective way for businesses to serve their customers and prospects on their existing telephone lines without paying for markets outside their calling area."
"Since businesses don't pay for calls coming from beyond their service area, MaxiMizer 800 service can save them money," Collins adds.
Southwestern Bell completed the introduction of MaxiMizer 800 service in its five states in 1991. To date, more than 5,000 customers have bought the service. Customers will learn about the reduced setup fee for the service through advertising.
Basic MaxiMizer 800 service costs $10 per month, plus a one-time setup fee. Through Feb. 29, the setup fee is only $30.
Businesses only pay for the time their MaxiMizer 800 service is use-?-22.5 cents per minute for the first 10 hours of use and only 20 cents per minute after that.
For example, if a customer receives two hours of MaxiMizer 800 calls in a month, she'll pay only $27 plus the $10 monthly service charge.
"That's a small price to keep customers satisfied and to bring in more business," notes Collins. "And with the setup fee discount this month, it's a great time to start the service."
Other benefits of MaxiMizer 800 service include:
-- Economy - The service works on customers' existing phone
lines, so there's nothing to install and no new equipment
 to buy.
-- Billing detail - When a business customer signs up for
MaxiMizer 800 service, she can request free monthly billing
detail. This billing feature lets a business quickly see
where its 800 number calls are coming from.
-- Works with service options - MaxiMizer 800 service also
works in unison with telephone services such as Three-Way
Calling, Call Waiting and Call Forwarding.
"A business' customers today really put a premium on quality service," says Collins. "The easier it is for people to reach a business, the more likely that business can sell its products."
Promotional efforts for MaxiMizer 800 service are part of Southwestern Bell's 1992 "Winning Edge" promotions plan which is directed to small businesses. Other services being featured this year include TeleBranch(R) (gives a business a local presence in a new area for about $30 a month), additional lines and Plexar(R) (central office- based telecommunications service).
Southwestern Bell also offers MaxiMizer 800 service in Kansas and Oklahoma but did not file a setup reduction tariff with those state commissions.
Southwestern Bell Telephone is a wholly owned subsidiary of Southwestern Bell Corporation (NYSE: SBC) and provides telecommunications services to more than 9 million customers in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.
Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. trademarks MaxiMizer 800 service is a pending service mark. TeleBranch service is a registered service mark. Plexar service is a registered service mark.
