BUSINESS TRAINING OFFERED AGAIN PROJECT ECHO GIVES HANDS-ON LEARNING.

CANYON COUNTRY - Project ECHO, the local hands-on business education program, is up and running again this year at Bowman and Canyon high schools Canyon High School can refer to:

  • Canyon High School (Santa Clarita), in Santa Clarita, California
  • Canyon High School (Canyon, Texas), in Canyon, Texas
 with added support from two new sponsors.

Through the partnership with the chamber, ECHO students will have the opportunity to sit on committees and attend business-related training sessions and seminars. The partnership with Junior Achievement will provide ECHO students and teachers access to the vast array of business education and operation tools and resources they provide.

At Bowman High School, Mike Nugent Mike Nugent (born March 2, 1982 in Centerville, Ohio) is an American football placekicker for the New York Jets of the National Football League. The students operate an on-campus retail kiosk that provides confections, yearbooks, school supplies and Associated Student Body apparel. Last year the business declared and paid dividends to eight graduating students at $4 per share.

``It is great to get things running again,'' Nugent said. ``The students are motivated and working hard on continuing to run a successful business.''

At Canyon High, Pete Getz has two classes, one of which has chosen to continue with C-House Clothing, while the other will start a new business. C-House provides a fashionable alternative to traditional high school and community spirit wear.

``We went into this year running,'' Getz said. ``C-House is up and running and the fourth period class is very close to having their business plan completed.''

Project ECHO is a Santa Monica-based nonprofit organization Nonprofit Organization

An association that is given tax-free status. Donations to a non-profit organization are often tax deductible as well.

Examples of non-profit organizations are charities, hospitals and schools.
 whose mission is to implement and support hands-on programs in entrepreneurship and business management at the high school level. The organization currently supports programs in 10 schools and 13 classes throughout Southern California.
