 Scientific Inc. announced the pricing of its public offering of 2.5 million shares of its common stock, including 180,000 shares by selling stockholders, at a price of $17.88 per share.

CIBC World Markets CIBC World Markets is the investment banking division of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. Health providers hold 1-day strike

More than 4,000 California health care providers, including some in Ventura County, went on a one-day strike Thursday, demanding a stronger role in setting staffing levels and in determining patient care improvements.

Nurses at St. John's hospitals in Oxnard and Camarillo were among those who said they want more input in the discussions over improving patient care.

CHATSWORTH - CHAD Therapeutics Inc. has won clearance by the Food and Drug Administration to market its new OXYMATIC 411 electronic oxygen conserver, the company announced Thursday.

The OXYMATIC 411 conserver delivers a pulse of oxygen on every breath at all delivery settings. The company plans initial deliveries of the OXYMATIC 411 in January.

Hospital chain will pay for its crimes

WASHINGTON - HCA-The Healthcare Co., the nation's largest for-profit hospital chain, agreed Thursday to plead guilty to defrauding government health care programs and will pay more than $840 million in criminal fines, civil penalties and damages.

The agreement reached after a seven-year federal investigation triggered by private whistle-blowers is the largest government fraud settlement ever negotiated by the Justice Department.
