BUSINESS NOTES HEALTH CARE DEAL TARGETS LATINOS.


WOODLAND HILLS - Affordable health care will be offered to Latinos and their families on either side of the U.S.-Mexico border under a binational bi·na·tion·al

Thirty-five percent of Latinos in California don't have health insurance.

The partnership includes Health Net, Medico Hispano and the Tenet Health System hospitals in Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Christopher Ciano, senior vice president at Woodland Hills-based Health Net, said, ``Everybody deserves the opportunity to protect the health and wellness of their families.''

SIMNSA is the first health plan authorized to contract with California employers to provide health care benefits and service in Mexico.

Capstone pursues public stock offer

CHATSWORTH - Capstone Turbine Capstone Turbine Corporation NASDAQ: CPST, incorporated in 1988, is a California based gas turbine manufacturer that specializes in microturbine power and heat cogeneration systems. Capstone has sold and shipped more than 3,000 of these one-moving-part systems worldwide.  Corp. announced Tuesday that it has filed a registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission for a proposed public offering of 7 million shares of its common stock.

Capstone produces low-emission microturbine systems.

S. Kumars buys shares of Iwerks

BURBANK - The S. Kumars Group has purchased on the open market approximately 19 percent of the outstanding shares of common stock of Iwerks Entertainment Inc. in a single large block of stock.

This investment, which was announced Tuesday, comes less than a week after a deal between Iwerks and S. Kumars and its affiliates whereby Iwerks will issue a combination of common stock, warrants and a convertible note. Under the agreements, Iwerks will sell $3 million of common stock at a price equal to $1.70 per share to S. Kumars.

KMEX employees staging walkout

Camera operators, writers and sales assistants were among the 120 employees at Univision's Los Angeles flagship television station KMEX (Channel 34) to go on strike Tuesday after nearly a year's negotiations had halted.

Talks with the station resumed briefly Monday in spite of the day's walkout by members of the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians/Communications Workers of America Local 53.

Instead of concentrating simply on direct sales and 450 cosmetic, vitamin and cleaning products, the company is diversifying its operations, including Internet sales and manufacturing and distributing non-Amway brands.
