 and Universal Studios on Monday extended their 6-year-old distribution agreement five more years.

Universal has the international theatrical distribution rights to live action and animated DreamWorks motion pictures, and worldwide home video. Universal was also granted music distribution rights and the rights to DreamWorks characters in its theme parks.

Idealab distances from namesake

PASADENA - Idealab Capital Partners distanced itself from its privately held namesake, Idealab, on Monday. The $450 million venture capital firm that invests in early stage software and communications companies said it is changing its name to Clearstone Venture Partners Clearstone Venture Partners is an early stage venture capital firm focused on IT investing with offices in Santa Monica, CA, Menlo Park, CA, and Mumbai, India. Founded in 1997, as Idealab Capital Partners, Clearstone is responsible for the early-stage funding of many successful  and moving from Pasadena to Santa Monica.

Stacked Costco, Home Depot near

An $80 million, 440,000-square-foot development in the midcity area of Los Angeles will include the West Coast's first stacked Home Depot-Costco, it was announced Monday.

 and its development partner, LCOR Public/Private Inc., were granted approval by the Los Angeles Planning Commission to build Pico Plaza, a mixed-use development at 4550 W. Pico Blvd.

The center will be anchored by retailers Home Depot and Costco, which will be stacked one on top of the other, and include restaurants, retail shops and a self-storage facility.

Faulty cigarette lighters recalled

WASHINGTON - In its largest recall of cigarette lighters, the government says some 13 million disposable lighters need to be returned because they have faulty safety features that don't prevent young children from starting fires.

The recalled lighters have one of the following brand names stamped on both sides of their metal tops: Boda-Bing, Gil, Happy or Wax. The lighters come in various colors and also have writing that says Made in China.

Short-term T-bills hit new April high

WASHINGTON - Interest rates on short-term Treasury securities rose in Monday's auction.

The Treasury Department sold $9 billion in three-month bills at a discount rate of 4.05 percent, up from 3.82 percent last week. An additional $8 billion was sold in six-month bills at a rate of 4.060 percent, up from 3.815 percent.

The three-month rate was the highest since April 2 when the bills sold for 4.125 percent. The six-month rate was the highest since March 26 when the rate was 4.12.

In a separate report, the Federal Reserve said Monday that the average yield for one-year constant maturity Treasury bills, the most popular index for making changes in adjustable rate mortgages, rose to 4.07 percent last week from 4.00 percent the previous week.
