WOODLAND HILLS - Dental/Medical Diagnostic Systems Inc. will file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy this week, company Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert H. Gurevitch said Monday.

The Woodland Hills-based company, which manufacturers and supplies technologically advanced dental equipment, could not come to terms with its lender, which foreclosed on Dental's assets Monday.

Valley companies win U.S. contracts

WASHINGTON - Federal contracts were awarded to a variety of Valley-based businesses earlier this month.

Boeing's Rocketdyne Propulsion & Power in Canoga Park won an $899,575 contract from NASA's Langley Research Center, in Hampton, Va., to perform a research effort.

Fairchild Fasteners of Simi Valley won a $95,120 contract from the Defense Industrial Supply Center, in Philadelphia, for double hexagon self-locking nuts.

Hames Machine Products of Santa Clarita won an $81,287 contract from the U.S. Army Aviation & Missile Command, at Redstone Arsenal, Ala., for ring spacers.

ITT Industries Gilfillan Division in Van Nuys won a $143 million contract from the U.S. Marines Corps Systems Command, in Quantico, Va., for six SPS-48E three-dimensional land-based radar systems and associated supplies and services to the Arab Republic of Egypt under a foreign military sales initiative.

Litton Systems Inc. in Northridge won a $984,647 contract from the U.S. Naval Inventory Control Point, in Philadelphia, for circuit card assemblies and a $111,069 contract for technological display units. The company's Woodland Hills office won a $15.76 million contract from the U.S. Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, at Patuxent River, Md., for CN-1649 and ASN-139 inertial navigation units and MT-6436 and ASN-139 inertial mounts for the U.S. Navy.

Sierracin-Sylmar Corp. of Sylmar won a $187,155 contract from the U.S. Air Forces Warner Robins Air Logistic Center, Ga., for windshields.

Spiral Technology Inc. in Lancaster won a $7.86 million contract from the U.S. Air Force Materiel Command, at Edwards Air Force Base, for advanced research and engineering support.

Whittaker Corp. of North Hollywood won a $52,850 contract from the Defense General Supply Center, in Richmond, Va., for actuator baseplates.

And Wright Barry Corp. of Burbank won a $93,925 contract from the Defense Industrial Supply Center, in Philadelphia, for shock mounts.

Interest rates fall on Treasury bills

WASHINGTON - Interest rates on short-term Treasury securities fell in Monday's auction.

The Treasury Department sold $15 billion in three-month bills at a discount rate of 3.550 percent, down from 3.560 percent last week. An additional $13 billion was sold in six-month bills at a rate of 3.490 percent, down from 3.500 percent.

Both the three-month and six-month rates were the lowest since June 25 when they were 3.375 percent and 3.340 percent, respectively.

Schwab, Fleet pay for breaking rules

WASHINGTON - Divisions of Charles Schwab Corp. and major bank FleetBoston Financial are among 10 firms fined by a brokers' self-policing group for alleged rule violations in sales of new stock that were said to disrupt the market for the stocks.

Schwab Capital Markets and Fleet Securities agreed to pay fines of $12,000 and $50,000, respectively, in settlements related to trading of initial public offerings at the height of the IPO frenzy in 1999.
