BUSINESS NOTES CAPSTONE SOARS IN NASDAQ TRADING.


Riding a wave of good news for the power technology sector, Chatsworth-based Capstone Turbine Capstone Turbine Corporation NASDAQ: CPST, incorporated in 1988, is a California based gas turbine manufacturer that specializes in microturbine power and heat cogeneration systems. Capstone has sold and shipped more than 3,000 of these one-moving-part systems worldwide.  rose dramatically in Nasdaq trading Tuesday.

Shares of the company, whose turbines generate electricity using natural gas as a fuel source, rose $9.75 to close at $90. At times on Tuesday, the stock traded at more than $98 a share.

Goldman, Sachs and Co. analyst Masroor Siddiqui said Capstone was buoyed by the rising profile of alternative energy companies, even makers of fuel cell technology that competes with Capstone's product.

HP provides cash for food dot-com

FoodMarketplace.com, the parent company of FoodSamples.com, SurplusFoods.com, and operating manager of Resourcelink.org, announced the receipt of $6.1 million in financing from Hewlett-Packard Co. on Tuesday.

Hewlett-Packard's support will help provide FoodMarketplace.com with the technology and financing required to expand its commercial and nonprofit activities.

Valencia Bank goes on Nasdaq

Shares of Valencia Bank and Trust will begin trading today on the Nasdaq's SmallCap Market under the symbol ``VABT.'' The company's stock previously traded on the over the counter markets.

John M. Reardon, Valencia Bank's president and chief executive officer, said the company was pleased to have its stock approved by Nasdaq for trading on this exchange.

Sherak is partner in new film studio

The man who oversaw distribution of such films as ``Die Hard'' and ``Big'' for 20th Century Fox is leaving to join a newly formed film production company.

Microsoft alleges counterfeiting

Microsoft Corp. officials announced legal action Tuesday against a handful of computer resellers for allegedly pirating its software.
