The existing contract was set to expire April 15. The new one covers 40 Tenet hospitals until June 1, 2004, including Encino-Tarzana Regional Medical Center (both its Encino and Tarzana campuses).

The new contract applies to Blue Cross HMO HMO health maintenance organization.

Computer school chain shuts down

All 25 schools run by Computer Learning Center Inc. nationwide - including one in Los Angeles - were shut down Tuesday with little explanation.

Last month, the U.S. Department of Education ordered the company to return $187 million in financial aid because the government didn't believe the firm was financially solvent.

Software contract awarded to NetSol

CALABASAS - Software developer NetSol International Inc. said Tuesday that its e-business subsidiary NetSol eR Inc. has been selected to develop Internet-based business applications for Clinical Interactions.

The product, set for a July 2001 launch, seeks to boost productivity for physicians at the point-of-care.

Power producer sees profits soar

Dynegy Inc. became the latest power generator to report increased earnings in the wake of California's energy crisis.

The Houston-based company, one of the major power generators in California, said it earned $105.9 million, or 32 cents per share Cents per share

J.C. Penney plans to close 50 stores

PLANO, Texas - J.C. Penney Co. Inc. plans to close about 50 department stores as new management tries to repair the troubled retailer, officials said Tuesday.

Penney has seen its market share slip for several years as it was outflanked by discounters and trendier retailers. Analysts say the company was slow to update its stores and suffered from poor marketing and stale merchandise.

Sega Dreamcast throwing in towel

 - Sega Corp. is reportedly planning to stop the production of its Dreamcast game console by the end of March, focusing its efforts on developing and supplying its home software games to such rival companies as Sony Computer Entertainment and Nintendo Co.

Sega will no longer accept new orders for Dreamcast, instead only assembling units from parts in inventory, according to a story in Tokyo-based The Nihon Keizai Shimbun's edition out today.

Sega of America issued a statement late Tuesday, saying the company does not comment on rumors.
